Questions
Good to know.
What is a retreat with Nūr Morocco?
Three to six days of ziyara, dhikr, reading and quiet, set around the prayer times and all-inclusive: airport transfers, accommodation, three meals a day, ground transport, a local guide and a qualified spiritual facilitator for the sessions agreed in your programme. A retreat here is a journey with set times for prayer, dhikr, reading and silence. It is not a formal khalwa under a sheikh.
Do I need to be Muslim?
No. The devotional track is for Muslims; the open track welcomes every sincere guest. Both tracks visit the same places. Where a sanctuary’s interior is reserved for Muslims, open-track guests have a guided visit outside.
Can I attend the dhikr?
Yes, with the permission of the zawiya, which we ask for each date. Devotional-track guests take part; open-track guests sit as quiet guests where visitors are welcomed. We tell you before you book which evenings are confirmed.
What is different between the two tracks?
Only how you take part: congregational prayer, full dhikr and recitations on the devotional track; explanation, quiet attendance and reflection on the open track. The route, the riads and the pace are the same.
What is the difference between a private and a small-group retreat?
A private retreat is just for you, your family or your companions, on any dates you choose. A small-group retreat runs on a scheduled date with 8 to 14 guests, so the price per person is lower. Group dates are listed on each retreat page as soon as they are scheduled.
How do I book?
Choose a retreat, a track and your dates in the booking panel, or send an enquiry. We reply with a confirmed programme and price. Prices are calculated from the accommodation level, group size, transport and confirmed programme, and sent with your proposal. Nothing is paid online; we agree payment terms with you directly once you are happy with the proposal.
Are the zawiya visits and evening gatherings guaranteed?
Only once the custodians or hosts have confirmed them for your date. Visits inside sacred spaces, taking part in zawiya gatherings and meetings with resident teachers are confirmed individually for each date. Anything not yet confirmed is marked “Confirmed per date”, and we tell you before you book if something cannot happen, with a described alternative.
What should women know about visiting zawiyas?
Modest dress covering arms and legs, and a headscarf inside sanctuaries. Arrangements for women differ from one zawiya to another, and some gatherings are separate. We tell you what to expect at each place before you travel.
Can I combine retreats and day trips?
Yes. Atlantic Serenity can close the Shadhili Path with two nights by the sea, the Seven Saints Retreat can end with two nights in Safi, and any day trip can be added before or after. Several retreats can be joined into a longer journey; tell us what you have in mind and we plan the transfers.
What about food and prayer?
All meals we arrange are halal, and dietary needs are gathered before you travel. Each day is planned around the prayer times.
What should I wear?
Modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees, and comfortable shoes for the medina and the mountain roads. Women may like to carry a scarf for sacred sites. For the Nasiri Oasis Retreat, bring a warm layer: desert nights are cool.
