Fès-Meknès

Fez and Meknes

فاس ومكناس

Fès el-Bali grew around al-Qarawiyyin University and the darih of its founder, Moulay Idriss II; Abu al-Hasan al-Shadhili studied here before he found his master. An hour and a half west lies Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, the sanctuary town of Idris I. The Spiritual Heart of Morocco retreat joins them with the masters of Fez, al-Tijani, al-Dabbagh and Sidi ʿAli al-Jamal, and with the saints of Meknes, Sidi ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Majdhub and al-Shaykh al-Kamil.

Getting there. Fès–Saïss airport (FEZ) is 17 km from the medina, about 22 minutes. From Casablanca airport it is 321 km, about 3 h 40.
