About Nūr Morocco
Retreats on the Shadhili path, from Jbel Alam to Marrakech.
We organise private and small-group retreats and day trips to the saints, zawiyas and holy places of the Shadhili path in Morocco, with guides who know their history and the adab they ask of visitors. A devotional track for Muslims, and an open track for every seeker.
Adab
What we ask, and what we promise.
Sacred spaces
Zawiyas and shrines are living places of prayer and remembrance. We visit at considerate times, keep groups small and follow the custodians’ guidance.
Access
Some mosque, zawiya and shrine interiors are reserved, for example to Muslim visitors, or close during prayers. Where that applies, every guest gets a guided exterior visit and eligible guests may enter when permitted.
Dhikr
We attend dhikr as guests of the zawiya, with its permission for each date. Guests follow the zawiya’s customs, and nothing is recorded unless the zawiya invites it.
Hosts
Readings, conversations and devotional gatherings depend on hosts who welcome us. We never say a zawiya, scholar or performer has agreed before they have.
Quiet
Retreat days keep time for silence and reading. We ask guests to keep phones away at shrines and gatherings, and to arrive early for prayers.
Photography
No photography inside shrines unless a custodian allows it, and never of people at prayer without their consent.
Dress
Covered shoulders and knees for everyone; women may like to carry a scarf. Shoes come off where indicated.
Pace
Days are set around the prayer times, with lunch and rest, driving times shown honestly, and dietary and mobility needs gathered before we quote.
